LUCKNOW: Glorification of Nehru-Gandhi family in a book, 'Sultanpur-Kal aur Aaj' proved costly for four officers of the state, including two IAS officers, and an officer of the Provincial Civil Service.Taking a strong view of the cooperation extended by these officers to the regional publicity officer of Sultanpur in compiling the book, the Mayawati government on Thursday placed all the four officers under suspension.
Those suspended include divisional commissioner, Faizabad, Venkateshwarlu, district magistrate and chief development officer of Sultanpur, Sanjay Kumar, and assistant director, information, PK Singh.
The government is of the view that the book in question was aimed at not only at improving the image of a party but also an attempt to increase its popularity. The book also highlights the contribution of late PMs Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in development of Sultanpur. For the Amethi MP, the book says: "Rahul has made significant contribution in the field of education and health. It is Rahul who started the literacy mission in Amethi as an experiment and to his credit goes the establishment of IIT and also the sixth centre of ISRO."
